Emotion & Nervous System Regulation
Why Regulate Your Emotions/Nervous System?
Regulating your nervous system and emotions is crucial for overall well-being and functioning. Here are some key reasons why it is important:
-
Mental Health: Emotions play a significant role in mental health. Unregulated emotions can lead to mood swings, anxiety, depression, and other psychological disorders. By learning to regulate your emotions, you can improve your mental health and build resilience to cope with life's challenges.
-
Stress Management: Chronic stress can have severe negative effects on both physical and mental health. When the nervous system is not regulated, the body can remain in a constant state of heightened stress response.
-
Interpersonal Relationships: Emotion regulation is vital for healthy relationships. Uncontrolled emotions can lead to conflicts, misunderstandings, and hurt feelings. Being able to manage and express emotions in a healthy way fosters better communication and empathy, enhancing the quality of relationships.
-
Decision Making: Emotions can influence decision-making processes. When emotions are running high, rational thinking can be compromised, leading to impulsive or irrational choices. Also understanding what your emotions are and why they are there can help you know what is right and wrong for you.
-
Physical Health: Chronic stress and negative emotions have been linked to various physical health problems, such as cardiovascular issues, weakened immune system, and digestive disorders.
-
Productivity and Performance: When emotions are not managed, they can interfere with concentration, focus, and productivity.
-
Self-Awareness and Self-Control: Emotion regulation involves self-awareness and the ability to understand and manage one's feelings. This self-awareness and self-control are essential for personal growth, goal-setting, and building a sense of inner peace and contentment.
-
Conflict Resolution: In conflict situations, emotion regulation is crucial to avoid escalation and promote constructive dialogue. It allows individuals to express their thoughts and feelings without becoming overwhelmed by anger or frustration.
-
Overall Happiness: When the nervous system is well-regulated, and emotions are managed effectively, individuals tend to experience a greater sense of happiness and life satisfaction.

How I approach Women's Health...
Women's Health is treated by looking at the WHOLE system. First we balance the body chemistry with the appropriate foods that fit your constitution (I love using Chinese medicine principles for this). We also can use gut microbiome testing if needed to see if there are imbalances in your gut flora (parasites, fungi, yeast, worms). A balanced gut flora directly affects your mood and hormones. Just these simple changes alone can make a HUGE impact in the case. I also like to address liver health (the main organ for regulating and balancing our hormones & stress. I also want to make sure the detoxification pathways are working so byproducts can be excreted safely. (organs involved are the liver, kidney, lungs and skin and GI tract)
Next I use herbs,/ supplements to help balance your cortisol and stress response. By calming your nervous systems we can allow you to be calmer, and more hormonally balanced. This will also affect mood swings, anxiety and depression. Other modalities such as acupuncture/homeopathy help the body reboot it's nervous system and allow for deep relaxation as well as organ system balance. We also address your learned patterns to stress by learning how to rewire your stress response in your body using hypnotherapy, breathing and cognitive restructuring.
